West Bowdoin Baptist Church

A Christ-Centered Family Welcome

Mission News and Community Outreach Ministries

Mission’s giving and active involvement in local missions is a major focus at West Bowdoin Baptist Church.  Both through our denomination,  American Baptist Churches,  and in cooperation with other churches and organizations locally. We are answering our Lord’s call to meet the needs of all people. These needs are spiritual, physical and societal and we attempt to meet these needs through the following:

  • Joyful participation in our denomination’s missions campaigns - “ America for Christ,”  “ World Missions Offering,” “One Great Hour Sharing," “ Retired Missionaries and ministers Offering,” "United Missions Basics,” and the “Love Gift Offering”

  • Locally we are involved with Lisbon Area Christian Outreach. (LACO)  Through this ecumenical group of churches, we share in the sponsorship of a food pantry, clothing bank, and fuel assistance.

  • Members of this church sponsor a meal once a month at the Tedford Shelter,

  • and we have adopted families at Christmas time, providing them with means for a holiday celebration.

Two of Our Focus Missionaries

Ann and Bill Clemmer

Ann and Bill Clemmer have recently relocated to South Sudan after 16 years of service in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).  Bill will be serving as country representative for IM's partner, IMA World Health, working with a team of 35 men and women from six African nations to help establish and reinforce primary health care services for an estimated 4 million persons in two of South Sudan's states (Jonglei and Upper Nile), many who are returning refugees from the northern sector of the country.  Ann will be supporting communication, logistics, and the needs of Sudanese health care workers in various training and educational settings.   Although there are many unanswered questions in terms of lodging, security, and access to new areas, Ann and Bill only have to look at God's provisions and blessings in the past to know that His faithfulness covers their tomorrows.

Daniel and Sarah Chetti Portrait

Dan and Sarah Chetti

Dan and Sarah Chetti serve at the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary in Beirut, Lebanon. They are the first International Ministries missionaries in Lebanon. The Chettis are also very involved in the International Church in Beirut, where Dan is one of the Elders of the Church and Sarah helps to teach Sunday School.

Dan teaches theology and coordinates graduate studies at the seminary. He also mentors students, is a member of the Library Committee, the Faculty Council and the Academic Committee. Dan also provides assistance in academic matters to the Academic Dean of the seminary. In addition, Dan has been ministering to the Sudanese Congregation that meets at Fanar Baptist Church, Lebanon

Sarah works on the development and management of the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary’s library. Sarah has also been involved in ministries in a local prison where she ministers among the maids who are locked up there. She takes fresh fruits and vegetables to them and brings their letters to be mailed and also contacts their employers for assistance to bail them out of prison.

When the war broke out in mid-July, 2006, the Chettis were faced with the decision to stay in Beirut or to leave. After seeking guidance through prayer, the Chettis made the decision to remain in Lebanon despite bombs being dropped very close to where they were staying. While there, the Chettis were able to help the people in the area, receiving and distributing food and supplies for civilians and Lebanese natives.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
