"Got Style?"
The "Got Style?" strategy which the West Bowdoin Baptist Church has adopted as a strategy for church evangelism and growth is a big step with many as many questions as there are individuals in the church. Where it will lead us is certainly yet to be seen.
What is "Got Style?" It is a strategy for Natural and Relational Evangelism. Together, pastor, leaders, and congregation, will engage in a slow and careful examination of who we are as a church in relationship to God's call to be sharing the gospel to the community and introducing our neighbors to Jesus Christ.
We have focused the past year on becoming a church that is prayer centered. Praying for others in the community and praying for the ministries and leadership of the church. We must continue to pray that we will be good listeners to the will and direction of God.
It might be easiest to explain what "Got Style?" is by first looking at what "Got Style?" is not.
-
It is NOT a church growth program with a method at its center that will automatically bring in lots of new people.
-
It is NOT a short term program with a "success goal" that can be easily measured by numbers or other clearly defined criteria.
-
It is NOT a program or strategy that is shaped and design to fit every church the same say.
If it is not these what can we expect? We can expect God to do great and wonderful things. We can expect to have to work and pray and struggle and stumble and then get up and keep on trying to keep in step with the will of God.
We are in the very early steps of "Got Style?" at West Bowdoin Baptist Church. We are following some steps that are briefly outlined below along with some of efforts that we are undertaking to see that we do keep in step with the will of God.
-
We are continuing our focus on prayer. We call all the members, individually and corporately, to be in prayer for each other, for the leaders of the church, for the wisdom to hear God's directions.
-
As the steps are taken, we are trying to keep everyone informed of what is taking place. There will be small group activities that will continue to lead to the involvement of every member of the congregation.
-
We must share openly our vision and hopes for the church and seek to put OUR PLANS in alignment with the PLANS OF GOD. There is no predetermined agenda or plan that we are working towards. As we work together, God will make it clear. It will then be up to us if we will follow His plans.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask the pastor. Only correct information and clear communication about what is taking place will make the whole process a positive and growing experience.
